Our crazy Dallas winter rolls on; 80 degrees last week and bone-chilling temps the next! Funny what gusting winds that turn a chilly 43 degree morning into "feels like 20 degrees" will do to best laid plans. The client decided early on that it was just going to be too darn cold for a session on Wednesday and after my outing to photograph birds at the Coppell Biodiversity Education Center, I couldn't agree more! Holy cow it was cold!
With that rescheduling, I needed to find an alternate subject for the week 9 theme in the Pet Photography 52 Week Challenge, "details". I had read in our little home town weekly paper, the Citizens Advocate, that February 26th was the last day of the "Coffee with the Birds" events at the Center. How did I miss that prior to now? I love to photograph everything, but especially animals. Ding, ding, ding, we had a winner! While not pets, these wild birds certainly have a lot of detail so off I went (the free coffee was a bonus!).
I spent about 40 minutes outside and when I couldn't feel my fingers anymore, I headed inside for a cup of coffee and to photograph through the glass. As soon as I went inside, the number of birds at the feeders the Center had set up, tripled. I got some nice images and spent the last 15 minutes trying to capture of an image of a bird in flight; that is really hard, they are so fast!
I hope you don't mind my stretching the concept of "pet photography" this week and enjoy this little moment of nature from Coppell, Texas.

Darlene - Gorgeous! Cardinals are my absolute favorites. The chickadee is adorable. I love the idea of anything accompanied by coffee haha!

Elaine - I really enjoyed these photos. When I am not photographing cats and dogs, I'm stocking my feeders and taking photos of birds. We have a lot of jays, chickadees, nuthatches and juncos. Sometimes a cardinal or two will fly in. :)

Angela Schneider - Cool birds! I think I'm OK with you "stretching the concept," since I do it all the time. LOL. Loved your images and it looks like you had a grand day.

Kelly Middlebrooks - Oh, your mama cardinal in the tree is beautiful!!! She is by far my favorite to photograph. They are always so flitty though, it's hard to catch them.
