Why does every dog mom love this kind of image? It’s because that’s how we see our dogs every day - from above – that’s why I call this picture “the Mommy shot” and try to include it in every pet portrait session whether at my studio in Carrollton or on location around the Dallas – Fort Worth metroplex, which can even include your home (your dog’s comfort is a priority when scheduling a pet photo shoot).

Photographing Your Dog From Above Adds Some Fun To Your Pet's Photo Shoot
Photographing your dog at eye level can make them appear larger than life, which of course is exactly how we think of them. But photographing from above (or below for that matter, a topic for another blog post), mixes things up a bit and gives a different perspective. The point of view of how we see our dogs every day; them laying or sitting at our feet and us gazing down upon them. Maybe it even shows us something that we never noticed before (were Tigger’s toofies always that adorable?).
Just a Few More Ways to Add Variety to Your Pet Portrait Session
The Mommy Shot is also a great way to get those camera-shy pet parents in the picture. You can be in the picture without having to fuss with hair and makeup because we photograph your pup at your feet. Just slip on your beloved everyday shoes, or those kickin’ cowboy boots and you’re good to go!
If you’re up for a little fun, we can use an ultra-wide-angle lens and turn your pup into a furry bobble-head like the little Yorkie below. Laying a backdrop on the floor like I did in the image above for Valentine’s Day, creates an entirely different look and immerses them in a scene.
Yes To Your Dog In a Bed of Flowers!
Popping your pup into a bed of flowers is one of my favorite things to do. I love the way the flowers surround and frame them and if you can get a grin like I did with my own dog, Ginger, below – it’s a total win! The Black Eye Susan flowers mirror Ginger’s yellow coat and brown eyes. Yes, I love the Mommy Shot too, that’s my Border Collie puppy Rooney in the “love scene” above.
It’s always a good time to photograph your pet. Whether you’re looking for fun and whimsical, or intimate fine art black and white studio portraits, we can design a pet portrait session that you and your pup will enjoy and create lasting memories of everything you love about them and the bond you have. A design consult costs you nothing, we’ll chat about what you had in mind for your portraits, location and even styling for you and your family so everyone will look their best; just click on the button below to kick things off.

Elaine - Totally agree about the floor on the first photo! Love it! Love all the photos, though, and the cutie patooties in them.

Cahlean - Lovely lookdown images! Guess I'm the atypical mom for not loving the look of lookdown images - purely personal preference! Though a pup between the feet and looking up would melt me...

Ina - I love how you call this the Mommy shot. I really like the one with the owner holding the dog. That’s a great way to have the owner in the photo without really being “in” it.

Angela Schneider - The floor with hearts and "love" all over it is too perfect for this kind of shot!
