Ask someone on the street, "what is monochromatic photography?" and you're likely to get the answer; "black and white". While that's not wrong, monochromatism is actually more than that. It's the purposeful reduction or elimination of all colors save for hues within a single shade. As always, rules are meant to be broken, or bent, and you may see the incorporation of an additional color to the primary shade used to add emphasis or visual interest to an image.
I really like the modern and fresh "tone on tone" esthetic of monochromatism and often use it in the studio even as recent as last week with Bebe and George, the two miniature poodles in the bottom image. I was thrilled with this week's theme of monochromatic in the Pet Photography 52 Week Project as I had lots of images to choose from - this is my wheelhouse!
