After a couple of attempts at capturing some really fast agility dogs in action, it was apparent that I needed a little help to improve my technique, so I was really excited to learn that Claudio Piccoli, a world renowned dog photographer who specializes in action photography, was coming to North America for a workshop in September of this year. I was in. Full stop. Put me on a plane. I am so happy that I invested in this workshop. I learned so much in just two days, not to mention the opportunity to photograph some truly world-class canine athletes and their amazing handlers.
When this week's theme of "photographer's choice" was announced in the Pet Photography 52 Week Project, I knew I wanted to dig through my hundreds of photographs from the weekend and retouch a few with the editing techniques we also learned. Action photography definitely has a learning curve but my accuracy improved as the hours ticked by and I came away with a few dozen keepers, but not after at least a few dozen more spectacular misses (more on that below).
