Grapevine Lake Is A Perfect Photo Session Location For Water-Loving Dogs
A favorite location for pet and family portrait sessions is Grapevine Lake in north Texas, it's equidistant from both Forth Worth and Dallas and sits squarely between the two about 30 miles to the north east and west respectively.
Sunrise brings a pale-blue calmness to the water while sunset offers fiery silhouette opportunities so I regularly schedule sessions there for both times of the day. Whether your dog swims or not, it's a fantastic location providing lots of great rock outcroppings to take advantage for posing dogs alone for an epic portrait, or comfortably with their people.
But for water-loving dogs it's clear waters, gently sloping shores and convenient location to metroplex bedroom communities like Coppell, Southlake and of course Grapevine, make it a winner for weekend hikes and action dog photo shoots. Whether it's just cooling off for a swim, fetching a soggy tennis ball or a Frisbee, dogs give it two paws up. I enjoy hiking there with my Border Collie, Rooney.
I load up my backpack and shoulder the rest of my gear for the short hike down to the lake shore for sessions where I then change into my water shoes and proceed to shock my clients by walking out into the lake to get the most unique angles of their pup having a blast in the water.
Pictures of your dog doing what they love are a great addition to a custom-designed album or inclusion in a story print for the wall which depending on size can hold six to ten of your favorite images of your dog in a single collage and printed on 100% cotton fine art paper and finished with archival, gallery mounting and framing.
Below is just a small sampling of some of the many sessions I've held there. It's a short hike from parking, but you'll be richly rewarded when you arrive at the lake shore.

All Around The Circle
This week's theme in the pet photographer's blog circle is "go jump in a lake" so there should be lots of fun images to see of dogs having fun in lakes, rivers and ponds so lets kick things off with Endless Mountains PA photographer Elaine Tweedy of I Got the Shot Photography, shares her day with a black lab that loves the water and then continue clicking on the link at the bottom of each post until you're right back here where you started and then you will have completed the blog circle.

Elaine - Great location. I like when water locations also have nice big rocks for additional posing. Love the silhouette!

Holly - Beautiful photos Tracy. The colors of the rocks against the blue water is lovely. If I ever come to Texas, you'll have to take me to this place. It looks magical.

Cahlean - A lovely lake spot for a session and for pups to jump right in!

Tracy Allard - Right now I don't other than trying to be REALLY careful! To date, and fingers crossed, I (and my camera gear) stays safe - but I do want to "take the plunge" as it were to try my hand with a waterproof housing for "more wet" photos :).

Kim Hollis - Oh my gosh that silhouette photo is amazing! Please have someone take some behind the scenes video of you photographing dogs here. I think that'd be awesome to see and potential clients would be oh so impressed. :)
