Having your portrait, or dog's portrait for that matter, taken in the Texas bluebonnets is a right of passage for every true Texan as well as those transplants among us (me included). It can be a crazy time of the year, trying to find nice fields that are safe for dog photography (i.e. not too close to busy roadways where so many bluebonnets are planted) and have not yet been trampled by the hordes of folks you'll see either with their camera phones or professional photographers like myself in tow. The bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas and the perfect match for the week 36 theme of the Pet Photography 52 Week Project which is blue!
We were very lucky this year in that it was one of the best years I've seen for bluebonnets even around the Dallas area and close to me in Carrollton. Everywhere were thick blankets of flowers that lasted for couple of weeks before they started petering out and I took full advantage of it! Here are a few images from a session with Emily Hurt of EmDogs, with her border collies and token retriever mix, Artie (her husband's dog). Emily is a very successful agility dog competitor and trainer and it's always a joy to photograph her pups. They're incredibly well trained and are trustworthy off leash, which means a little less retouching for me because I don't have to remove leashes! And just between you and me, Ollie is my dog crush. I adore him to pieces as does everyone who meets him.
